In response to consumer concerns regarding the high cost of prescription drugs, policymakers are considering legislation that would legalize the purchase of prescription medicines from Canada and other countries, through traditional and online channels. It is unclear that imported prescription drugs can meet supply chain security requirements designed to protect patients from potentially unsafe drugs.

During the briefing experts will describe the issue of illegal online pharmacies, drug supply chain security protections currently provided by the Drug Supply Chain Security Act, risks associated with undermining those protections, and consequences for patients who are exposed to unsafe products.
