ASOP Global Statement Welcoming Young People in Recovery as New Member
WASHINGTON, DC (AUGUST 07, 2018) –The Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP Global) welcomed substance abuse recovery nonprofit Young People in Recovery (YPR) as a new member organization today.
“YPR shares our commitment to protect consumers and we are pleased that they have joined us in the fight against illegal online pharmacies and counterfeit medicines,” said Libby Baney, senior advisor to ASOP Global.
Through trainings and networks, YPR fosters and equips local community-led chapters across the country with the tools those seeking recovery need to take charge of their futures. YPR advocates on local, state and national levels to improve access to treatment and employment opportunities, secure quality housing, and to provide educational resources – including raising awareness about counterfeit drugs.
“It is troublesome how easy it is to access opioids and other prescription medications online from illegitimate sources. These drugs often contain too much, too little, or no active ingredients; and/or may be made using dangerous and sometimes deadly substances. Meanwhile, millions of Americans are in or seeking recovery for substance use disorders,” said Justin Luke Riley, President and CEO of YPR. “We look forward to partnering with ASOP Global to bring heightened awareness around the dangers of counterfeit medicines.”
YPR joins dozens of distinguished organizations serving as ASOP Global members and observers, including Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, National Consumers League and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. ASOP Global and its partners are dedicated to educating consumers about the proliferation of counterfeit medicines – both online and offline – and on ways to stay safe and save money.
