ASOP Canada Statement Regarding Unauthorized EpiPen Sales Through Second-Hand Sellers
WASHINGTON, DC (AUGUST 09, 2018) – The Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies Canada (ASOP Canada) is expressing concern following recent reports of the EpiPen® auto-injector being sold online through second-hand vendor sites in Manitoba, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. Buying and selling medical products outside Canada’s legitimate medication supply chain places an added risk to patient safety, as product integrity and personal information security cannot be assured through unlicensed channels. When purchasing medication online, Canadians can consult the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (www.napra.ca/online-pharmacies) or the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (www.safe.pharmacy) to determine if the online seller is a licensed pharmacy.
In response to the current EpiPen® supply shortage and other pharmaceutical shortages, ASOP Canada encourages continued monitoring of second-hand vendor sites and the prohibition of illegal and unlicensed resale or sale of medication through the internet and mail-order sources.

L’Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies Canada (ASOP Canada) a exprimé ses préoccupations à la suite de récents signalements de ventes d’auto-injecteurs EpiPenMD sur des sites de vente d’articles d’occasion au Manitoba, au Québec, en Alberta et en Colombie-Britannique. L’achat et la vente de produits médicaux en marge de la chaîne d’approvisionnement en médicaments légitime au Canada présentent un risque accru pour la sécurité des patients, puisque l’intégrité des produits et la protection des renseignements personnels ne peuvent être assurées par des canaux de distribution non autorisés.
