ASOP Global Honors Rep. McKinley with Annual Patient Safety Champion Award

WASHINGTON, DC (September 12, 2019) – Today, the nonprofit Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP Global) honored Rep. David McKinley (R-WV) with the organization’s annual ASOP Global Patient Safety Champion Award for his commitment to combatting the opioid epidemic and drug addiction.

“Representative McKinley has been at the forefront of the opioid crisis, seeing the devastating effect of opioid addiction in his home state of West Virginia and supporting key legislation on the national level,” Libby Baney, partner at Faegre Baker Daniels Consulting and senior advisor to ASOP Global said. “We thank Rep. McKinley for his tireless leadership and for his ongoing commitment to protect patients.

Through sponsoring bills like the Block, Report and Suspend Suspicious Shipments Act and his support for other legislation to protect patients online, Rep. McKinley has worked to curb the flow of illicit opioids across the U.S., provide better treatment access and keep Americans safe.

This is the third year ASOP Global has recognized individuals and organizations with the ASOP Global Patient Safety Champion Awards. Previous honorees have included Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) Rep. Michael C. Burgess, MD (R-TX-26), former Rep. Eugene Green (D-TX-29) and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
